A few years
after World War II, an American named Jim Thompson made
Thai silk known to international markets and today Thai
silk is the best known of all the country's handicrafts.
Made in a variety of weights it's very suitable for
home decoration, curtains, furniture coverings, interior
design applications, wall coverings, and of course,
clothing.
The gorgeously iridescent,
nubby Thai silk may have originated in northeastern
Thailand, where cloth weaving is a traditional folk
craft. For hundreds of years, the artistry and the knowledge
discovered and refined has been passed on from one generation
to another.
